From the 1st of April, the Practice is required under the terms of the new GP contract to allocate all patients with a named GP.
The contract required the named accountable GP to take responsibility for the co-ordination of all appropriate services required under the contract and ensure that they are delivered to each of their patients where required (based on the clinical judgement of the named accountable GP).
Overall responsibility for patient care has not changed and continues to be "practice based". This is largely a role of oversight, with the requirements being introduced to reassure patients that they have one GP within the Practice who is responsible for ensuring that this work is carried out on their behalf.
If you wish to be told the name of your accountable GP, please feel free to ask one of the reception team.
Having a named GP does not prevent you seeing any other Doctor in the Practice. Your named GP will obviously not be available at all times and if your needs are urgent or you simply wish to book an appointment with an alternative GP, you can do so.
